Retrospective of Nam June Paik one of the true avant garde and multidisciplinary artist of the XX century at Tate Liverpool.
Wandering amongst Nam June Paik's works, installations, TV sculptures...is like being a kid in a toy store... you can't be bored... you're always surprised, amused.
Born in 1936 in Korea, raised in Japan, having lived in Germany and the US (he died in Miami in 2006), Nam June Paik was one of the first "global artist". He comes across as a researcher, an "artistic scientifist", experimenting, questioning the world ...with Fluxus, performances, video art, installations, his flirts with the absurd, the humor, the provocation...but I find it truly poetic.
Hopefully he'll have another major retrospective soon ... MOMA? He deserves it.
Antony Gromley- ANOTHER PLACE
Another Place "consists of 100 cast-iron, life-size figures spread out along three kilometers of the foreshore, stretching almost one kilometre out to sea."
Who are they?
Where are they going?
Who, what are the waiting for?
Another Place is somehow unsettling and nostalgic.
Like an oxymoron the 100 statues (650kg each) look fragile, forgotten ... alone facing the ocean.
