On Monday the 23rd of March Art Paris the Spring art fair in Paris under the Grand Palais coupole closed its doors. This year there were about 110 galleries despite the fact that some majors parisians galleries were absent such as Emmannuel Perrotin, Yvon Lambert... even though the overall turned up was satisfactory according to the organisors. Paris is striving to regain its role as a major Art center but the fair remained a French fair with only 30% of foreign galleries present.
I made some nice discoveries such as :
Lee Bae, the Corean artist, in the tradition of Pierre Soulages offers his vision and fascination for black. His work is influenced as well by the Asian caligraphy.
I was pleased to see Fabien Verschaere works between cartoon and street arts,
Serge Malik commissioned an interesting work from the street artist Jonone in correspondance with Herve di Rosa.
I had a pleasant time, nothing really striking but good quality work. Obviously dealers did not take too much risk in presenting well established modern and contemporary artists.
