It is a journey in fantasy to visit Jan Dunning's studio. The beautiful young artist brought me to her artistic universe, nourished by literature, mythology, memories and dreams. She has created a very feminine world, poetic, romantic, refreshing, slightly unsettling and at time disturbing. From her days as a model she has learnt to tame her own image without any fear, from her time as an art student at St Martin she has learnt the art of photography and discovered the pinhole camera.

In her latest work, she put on stage places from her memories in doll's houses she built herself, and fill them up with flowers, plants... I really like the poppies.

There is uniqueness and a delicate touch in Jan's work and the pinhole camera seems to be a perfect medium to translate it.
Miroslav Tichy's work that I have seen in Beaubourg in summer 2008 (Miroslav Tichy Centre George Pompidou 25 June to 21 September 2008), resonated to my mind.
But still, I can't help thinking she has just started to open her Pandora box and there is a lot more to come...
Jan is part of The Space Between exhibition now showing @ The Crypt St Pancras London
