If you haven't seen this exhibition yet and happen to be in Paris...run and visit it. It is a great and didactic exhibition to learn about this wonderful artist. Full of humour, lightness and happiness.
The exhibition focus on Calder's Paris years 1926-1933 even though after the war he has spent his life commuting between France (Sache where he has his house) and the US.
His portrait are poetic and full of humour at the same time.
It is a great opportunity to see the famous Cirque de Calder and to follow the process of his work from figuration to abstraction and how eventually he imposed himself as the sculptor of mouvement. The influence of Miro, Mondrian and Duchamp can be found in his work.
I really enjoyed reading the book from Daniel Lelong "Avec Calder" which gives a really delicate portrait of the artist.
