Amazing Marina Abramovic... this great exhibition at Lisson is a retrospective of the artist's work, from her mind-blowing, sometimes violent and very emotional performances of the 70's (eg Art must be beautiful Artist must be beautiful, the Rhythm series and the performances she did with her artist's partner Ulay : AAA-AAA, Light-Dark...) to her works from recent years.
When I first watched this performance some years back I did not get it. I was starting my journey into contemporary art and I was mostly shocked...today I was moved by her passion, her dedication, her uncompromising commitment...offering herself to the public and using her body as a means of artistic expression.
Time has polished her. She looks amazing in her 60's. Energy and strength have replaced the shocking and masochistic experiences of her younger days when she put herself, her body, her life at risk in her performances. Transfer of energy has become Art in her performances.
Definitely une Grande Dame !
